I am interested the multi-faceted process of ceramics arts including wheel throwing, trimming, altering, and different types of firings. Recently I have been focusing on repetition of similar forms, pulling a specific types of handles on cups, and applying cohesive glaze decorating techniques. I am also partial to altering thrown forms while on the wheel to create visual interest and
movement. Using cone 10 stoneware I slice, stamp, facet, and twist the clay to suggest movement and looseness. The firing process is another way I employ movement in my work. Altering the flame in the kiln creates a roiling atmosphere that flows over my work and makes the glazes dynamic. I welcome the imperfections that arise in the process of ceramics.
I love creating pottery for everyday use. I believe that hand made pottery is special because of the connection that is made between the artist and the user through the object. When choosing a mug from my personal collection of pots, itís like Iím choosing to have coffee with that artist. I hope to make work that people will love to use.
