New Orleans ceramic artist Andrea Christie creates functional ceramic objects that carry an ethereal sense of time and dreams mixed with a physical sense of the hand and the earth. By using the method of hand building Christie is able to pursue layering texture and line in the surface of the soft slab. The sensuous nature of clay is revealed in the subtle beauty of a seam and the spontaneity of a mark.
The cups and pouring vessels are made from a porcelain or stoneware body, and the form is constructed using relatively thin slabs of clay. The artist selects the forms of the ewer, teapot and small cup because of the invitation to touch and the allusion to rituals of shared libation.
