Kit Carson
Born and raised at Champie Ranch in Castle Hot Springs, Arizona, Kit made little mud houses for his rusty toys. Soon after high school his creative mind pushed him towards becoming a jeweler.
Kit attneded Yavapai College in Prescott, Arizona and studied with Dick Marcusen. Then he attended the University of Oregon where he studied hand engraving with Max Nixon.
In 1975, he returned to his studio in Prescott and has been self-employed as an artist/jeweler ever since.
In 1978, he began creating three dimensional pieces of art in glass by sandblasting and carving. His rusty metal pile ever increasing.
1979 found Kit traveling in Europe, immersing himself in the great art treasures of the wrold. His drawings from the adventure are a continuous source of ideas for new pieces.
Returning to the United States in 1981, he moved to Santa Fe, New Mexico where he began his production jewelry line. For twelve years he designed and made jewelry and glasswork and began assembling rusted metal sculpture.
In 1993, he returned to his beloved desert of Arizona to a place called Cactus Camp. There he continues jewelry, glass and "Adjuncts de Art," sculpture, furniture, lamps and toys from recycled rusty metal.
Carson's work features highly original ideas and design, a lusty sense of humor and consummate skill.
