Function is a condition of the pots I make. They are fashioned with an honest concern for interior volume, the kinetics of handles, lids, spouts, and with anticipation of stance and manner. Function is a limitation and a freedom. The pragmatic aspects of function establishes the parameters of form. Within these parameters is the freedom to improvise, interpret and anticipate. The pots I make are intended to exist in domestic spaces in which I imagine them being used daily or occasionally. A pot positions itself within the order and function of a living space through imagination and use. There, it does not come to rest but continuously stirs. |
