Sequoia Miller is a functional ceramic artist who works in a quiet studio in a forest outside Olympia, Washington. Employing the vernacular of studio pottery, Miller's work explores his unique balance of functional tradition and individual expression. Each pot is wheel-thrown, entirely by hand, one-at-a-time.
The artist began Swimming Deer Pottery in Olympia in 1996, and has since established himself as a full-time studio potter, exhibiting his work nationally and teaching. He works by starting at the wheel, then alters and facets the clay until it becomes a contemplative and functional form.
