Washington State native Steven Brixner spent much of his life moving due to his fatherís time in the Navy. The artist attended San Diego State University in 1965 taking courses in oceanography and considering language studies, the he took an art class and found I really enjoyed it. It was a weaving class with Arline Fisch, a teacher who inspired Brixner to take her jewelry class the next semester.
Brixner finished his undergraduate degree in 1971, and went on to do graduate work in the metalsmithing program, eventually finishing in 1975. The following years are peppered with work jewelry businesses in San Diego, California and Charlotte, North Carolina. Brixner also taught jewelry construction and design at several schools in the San Diego area and at Penland School of Crafts, in North Carolina.
